With several round-trip family vacations under our belts and two kids only 12 months apart, we have found a travelling plan that totally works for us. Yes, travelling with kids is hard and if you haven’t flown with your child/children you may be very nervous about it. Luckily, I’ve complied a Top 5 Tip list for you to help make flying with kids a pleasant & smooth experience:
Tip #1: Choose a flight that works best with your children’s schedule. Whether it’s a nap that you are working around, or daily schedule, try as best as you can to book a flight closest to their “best” time. And if you envision your child sleeping on the plane because it’s their “nap time”... it may not happen and that is totally OKAY.
Tip #2: Put together pre-packed activity and snack packs for each child. 3-4 activities and 5-7 snacks generally is my go-to and so far, so good. The best thing to do is to choose your child's favourite activities and snacks because having a happy & entertained child on a plane is a REALLY big deal.
Tip #3: Don’t set any expectations and remain calm. If you end up on a 6 hour flight with your child screaming their head off, don’t sweat it, just remember that you once were that person without kids listening to the screaming child on the plane and guess what... you survived.
Tip #4: Board last. Often times airlines give individuals travelling with children an option to board the plane first. This sounds all fantastic and sweet, but with 300+ passengers having to board after you, I strongly recommend boarding last. Boarding last allows you to take a seat, put on your seatbelt and spend as little time as possible waiting for the plane to take off. You then have less time on the plane (pre take-off) which means less time for your child/children to get frustrated before take-off.
Tip #5: Pre-book your seats. This is something that makes life a lot easier. Knowing where you’ll be sitting (there may be an extra charge for this) is key. We generally choose closest to the front, that way when we land we are the first off the plane.
Now get out there and book that vacay you’ve always wanted to book, because although travelling with kids may be a ton of work, the memories and fun are nothing short of magic✨
XOXO

Love tip #4 ... would have never thought of that.
Great travel tips. I like the boarding last tip. We’re going away in November and that’s one thing I’ll remember thanks :)
